Well, I had to do a follow-up post to the sucky reasons, didn't I?
You know you've hit the big time when everybody tells you your blog sucks. If people care enough to mention it - you're in! It's like the girl/guy at work who goes round telling everyone how annoying you are, but who secretly likes you...
Wow! I've suddenly got loads of subscribers! Has this ever happened to you? Who knows why it happened? Who cares! Make the most of it.
If your stats look like a mountain range, or someone with spiky hair, or a rather long hedgehog, it means you're somehow getting people to stop and read. Maybe they even told their friends. Keep it up.
So much so, they think that by linking to you, you might link to them. Actually, that happens regardless of whether your blog sucks or not. Suck it up.
OMG my last post got 33 comments! OMG I actually want to write a follow-up! (Now I've forgotten why I wrote this tip.)
Yes people, you heard it here first, a whole row of ads that people actually paid for is a huge achievement! Especially if they go over the scrollbar of your browser and onto your desktop. And it's even better if they're all $0.01 Project Wonderful ads! Er no, wait a minute...
Imagine if you opened 50 tabs, each with a different site. 49 of them spawn a popup window. But the 50th tab is this incredible site that not only doesn't have a popup of its own, it actually trots off and closes all the other popups! Imagine that! (I must be dreaming.)
Legal, of course. Sites with beautiful, free music are great so long as the music doesn't autoplay. Hey, I wonder where that link goes?
Who needs MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and Project Wonderful when you can have a classic Pacman game in the sidebar of your blog? (Remind me to check if it autoplays, if so I'd better move it to the other list.)
Any site that offers free pie works for me. Now, if I could just find one...
Top my tips! What's a surefire sign your blog is worth a visit?
Amen to #1. My old website and blog was like Howard Stern. The people who liked me would usually visit once every few days. The people who didn't like me checked in every day to keep up with what I was saying, and those who absolutely hated me visited dozens of times a day, dropped the most comments, and even clicked the most on my ads (since my ads focused on their side of the political issues).
If you aren't irking at least one person enough to send you hate mail, you just aren't posting enough content. :)
*sighs* Ok, so I'm starting to think maybe my site does suck after all. What happens if you manage to steer clear of the does suck list but can't make it onto the doesn't suck one? Are we left floundering in a state of being entirely mundane???
I've started wondering if we can really, conclusively count our feed subscribers. You gained 20ish which is fantastic, assuming it's REAL. I LOST 30 readers. What's up with that? In my case I'm assuming Feed Burner got a bit wonky and my readers will be back soon enough.
I'll give you free pie. :-) What kind of pie do you like best?
You suck! :)
heh, OMG moments are a matter of perspective I guess. 2 weeks ago I was "OMG!" about having 33 VISITORS in a day! ;)
Also, you just reminded me to turn my pop up blocker off and visit my own site. *shudder* I'm kinda scared to look. I did see it for the 1st time on dial up AND Internet Explorer today. I'm still dealing with the trauma, so much that I can't even deal with the issues.
My mental image of your number 6 actually was them spilling onto your desk top, the one your keyboard sits on. Either way, that would be a good sign. lol
LOL I didn't know #7 existed, or are you just dreaming?
Uhm I can't think of one to add... I might come back later though.
You're too funny ben, and Tom: you suck!! LOL
p.s. I just noticed you *finally* added the '<previous post' thing to your blog! YAY! I love those!
Stick figures of any kind... if you don't have them (at least 1 anyway), you're toast!
I offer FREE PIE but no deliveries. You gotta come and get it. :D
Ben, you are a hoot! What a great list. I almost qualify - except, no free pie. Hey, let me know when you have that popup killer thing done, ok?
My blog has moved one step up from the doesn't totally suck position in my mind because I had a like 400 word comment the other day. Being so new in blogging, any comment makes my day.
And, I think you should add free food in general to that list. Working from home has made me fat, I'm going to go raid the fridge right now...
Again, good tips everyone. :)
Becca, feed subscribers tend to fluctuate - my FeedBurner counter has been mostly in the range 150-160 for a few weeks now.
fragileheart, I've had the previous/next links for months! Maybe they used to be less visible.
The wisely chosen theme and design!
Funny.. I'm listening to "Sitting on the corner of the sky" right now... :)
I like!
I like "The Long Cold Night" and "Sitting on the ...". :)
Didn't know where to comment on those songs other than here ..
Good work with the songs! :)
Hey Leo. Thanks for listening. You can leave comments on the tracks over at benbarden.com. :)
This one is more positive than the previous one but it is just as witty. I will be back when I have more time to come and explore your music link.
